Question

Why is Christianity true?

Answer

If someone were to ask you, “Why is Christianity true? Why do you believe it’s the only way to God?” — how would you respond? In this post, I’ll walk you through a clear and easy way to handle these conversations. There are four important questions that can help you show why Christianity is true and why it’s the only way to God.

Does Truth Exist?

Before we get into anything else, we need to start by talking about truth. Ask the person, “Do you believe there is such a thing as truth?” If someone doesn’t believe in truth, it’s tough to have a real conversation about anything — whether it’s about God, science, or life in general.

Some things are just personal preferences, like what flavor of ice cream you like or what kind of car you drive. But other things, like the Earth revolving around the sun or fire burning if you touch it, are true for everyone, no matter what they believe. These are called absolute truths, and we all live by them. Once you can agree that truth exists, you can move on.

Does God Exist?

Now that we’ve agreed that truth exists, the next question is: Does God exist? Here are three simple ideas that can help show that He does.

Everything has a cause. The universe had a beginning, and everything that begins has a cause. Something had to start it all, and that “something” is God.

Design needs a designer. When we look at how complex and detailed the universe is — from the structure of DNA to the perfect conditions for life on Earth — it’s clear that it didn’t happen by accident. Just like a watch needs a watchmaker, the universe needs a Creator, and that’s God.

Moral laws need a lawgiver. All cultures and societies have basic ideas of right and wrong, like knowing that murder or stealing is wrong. Where does this sense of morality come from? It had to come from someone, and that someone is God.

Did Jesus Rise from the Dead?

The next important question is about Jesus: Did He really rise from the dead? This is a big deal because Christianity stands or falls on this claim. Here are some reasons why we can believe Jesus did rise from the dead:

The empty tomb: If Jesus didn’t rise, why didn’t anyone just show His body to prove He was still dead?

Eyewitnesses: Over 500 people saw Jesus alive after He had been crucified. This isn’t just recorded in the Bible, but also in writings from other historians.

Changed lives: The people who followed Jesus went from being scared to boldly telling others about His resurrection — even when it meant they could be killed. Why would they risk their lives for something they knew was a lie?

Is the Bible True?

Finally, we get to the question of whether the Bible is true. If the Bible is reliable, then what it says about Christianity must also be true. But how do we know the Bible can be trusted?

History backs it up. Many non-Christian historians have written about Jesus and the events of His life. This helps confirm that what the Bible says is accurate.

Archaeology supports it. Over the years, archaeologists have discovered cities and places mentioned in the Bible that people once thought didn’t exist.

Prophecies fulfilled. The Bible contains prophecies that were written hundreds of years before they happened. For example, Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem was predicted long before it happened, which shows that the Bible is inspired by God.

Unity in diversity. The Bible was written by 40 different people over 1,500 years, and yet it tells one consistent story. This unity is another reason to believe the Bible is divinely inspired.

Conclusion

So, what does this all mean? Since truth exists, then it’s possible to know that God exists. With the existence of God, it makes sense that Christianity, which claims that God came to us through Jesus, could be true. If Jesus really rose from the dead, that proves Christianity’s message. And if the Bible is true, then everything it teaches — including that Jesus is the only way to God — must be true as well.
